Professional Dental Cleaning

What a difference a professional dental cleaning can make!

The before photos show heavy plaque and tartar buildup, particularly along the back teeth and gumline. Left untreated, this buildup can lead to bad breath, painful gum disease, infection, and even tooth loss.

The after photos reveal clean, polished teeth and healthier gums, giving this sweet pup a fresh, healthy smile.

Dental health is about so much more than appearance. A clean mouth means greater comfort, fresher breath, and better overall health.

Routine dental exams and professional cleanings are one of the best ways to keep your dog's smile healthy for years to come.

Regular Grooming

These girls come to me on a regular schedule, and they know the drill 🐾 A full freshen-up with their groom, ears, nails and dental care all taken care of in one comprehensive visit.

Plaque can build up surprisingly quickly, sometimes within just a couple of months. It starts when saliva, food debris and bacteria form a soft film on the teeth. If this isn’t regularly removed, minerals naturally present in the saliva harden that plaque into tartar/calculus, which becomes much more difficult to remove.

Every dog is different. Diet, what they chew, how often they chew and their individual saliva can all affect how quickly deposits accumulate. I often see dogs with substantially more build-up on one side of the mouth, simply because they have a preferred chewing side!

Keeping on top of dental care is important. Allowing plaque and tartar to accumulate around the gumline encourages bacterial growth and can lead to inflamed or bleeding gums, periodontal disease, tooth damage and infection. In advanced dental disease, bacteria from the mouth can also enter the bloodstream, which can even be fatal.

The best results come from combining professional care with good habits at home: regular brushing, suitable dental gels and encouraging safe, appropriate chewing. I can advise you on products and a routine suited to your dog during their consultation.

Regular dental maintenance can then help keep that build-up under control and, importantly, identify when something needs veterinary attention before irreversible dental damage develops. 🦷🐶
